About Garnus India
Some brands start with a business plan. Garnus started with a forest.
Long before chopping boards and trays, there was wood.
And long before GARNUS, there was Shri N.D. Bachkheti, a coveted officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS)
Our story begins with our grandfather, Shri N.D. Bachkheti, who served with the GOI as an Inspector General (IG) of Forests, was the highest-ranked officer of the Forest Department in the GOI during that period. He wasn’t just working with forests. He was protecting them, understanding them, and building connections around them throughout the world. He was also instrumental in establishing zoos around the world. Delhi Zoo, which is the first zoo in India, was his brainchild. His contribution was so deeply respected that one of the auditoriums in Nainital Zoo carries his name. Not as a branding exercise. As a legacy.
That matters to us.
Because when you grow up around someone like that, wood stops being “material.”
It becomes knowledge. Responsibility. Respect.
Meet the Co-Founder
Mrs. Kavita Bachkheti
Co-Founder. Proprietor. And the person who makes sure legacy actually turns into a living, breathing brand.
She leads Vitaan Enterprises, the company behind Garnus and Garnus India, with a sharp business mind and a calm sense of direction. Armed with a postgraduate degree in Commerce, she understands numbers, systems, and customers. She has what it takes to keep a brand honest & thriving.
While the brand is built on generations of wood knowledge, Kavita’s role is to make sure that knowledge doesn’t stay stuck in the past. She brings structure to craftsmanship and clarity to creativity.
You can think of her as the one who makes sure Garnus grows without losing its soul.
And honestly, every good legacy needs someone like that.
Wood Runs in the Family
In our family, wood knowledge didn’t come from Google searches or trend reports.
It came from observation, experience, and years of understanding how different woods behave, age, and last.
We learned:
- Which wood is strong, and which one is patient
- Which grain holds moisture better
- Which piece will age beautifully instead of cracking under pressure
This understanding has been passed down quietly from generation to generation naturally and consistently. It’s why Garnus exists today.
Not to sell wooden products.
But to do justice to them.
What We Make (And Why We Care)
At Garnus India, we craft wooden kitchen and home essentials using teak and sheesham wood. Things you actually use. Things that stay. Things that don’t need replacing every few months.
Chopping boards. Serving trays. Cheese boards. Everyday pieces that feel solid in your hands and honest in your home.
We do not take any shortcuts, and we do not add any chemicals in our products.
Each product is designed with one simple thought:
If this goes into someone’s home, it should earn its place there.
Our Values, Clearly Said
We believe:
Wood deserves respect, not exploitation
Sustainability is a responsibility, not a marketing line
Good products should feel calm, not loud
Craftsmanship shows when you stop overdoing things
We don’t chase trends. We trust materials.
We don’t rush production. We let wood be wood.
Why Garnus Exists
Garnus is not just a brand. It’s a continuation.
A continuation of forest wisdom. Of family knowledge. Of a relationship with wood that spans generations.
When you choose Garnus, you’re not buying a product made from wood.
You’re buying something made with understanding.
And honestly, that’s how it should be.
GARNUS: Rooted in Nature, crafted for life.
